We have already hinted elsewhere that we want to create a collection of synonyms or translations for the short Cologne dialect word "Tschö", perhaps with your help.
As short as the word is, it has a lot of meaning: I'm through the door now, take care, I wish you all the best, we'll see each other again.
Five letters with a lot of meaning. Unlike the Viennese, who launch into a veritable torrent of words: Bye-bye, kisses, see you soon!
But let's begin in Germany:
High German
Auf Wiedersehen - Goodbye (English)
Northern Germany
Atschüs
Moin
Tschüssing
Tüüs
Rhineland
Tschüs - Bye (English)
Tschö - Bye (English)
Machet - Make it (English)
East Germany
Tschüssi - Bye
Bayern / Austria
Servus (Bussi, Baba angehängt) - Hello (Bussi, Baba attached)
Pfiat di - Goodbye
„Küss die Hand, habe d'Ehre" - "Kiss your hand, have the honor"
It will also be exciting internationally;
English: Goodbye, See you soon, See you
Portuguese: adeus
Croatian: dovidenja
Czech: nashledanou
Danish: farvel
Dutch: tot ziens
European Spanish: adios
Finnish: nakemiin
French: au revoir
Greek: avTío
Italian: arrivederci
Norwegian: ha det
Polish: do widzenia
Romanian: la revedere
Swedish: adjö
Turkish: hosça kal
Vietnamese: tạm biệt
Arabic: Ma’a salama
Perhaps one or two of you would like to give us some tips on how to expand the list!?
